Estes Park Gallery
You can order prints in various formats such as print only, matted, plaque mounted, canvas, acrylic, etc.
The print only option is the most affordable route to go. It also gives you the greatest flexibility in choosing your own matting and framing to match your decor. Prints are also great if you are in a hurry as they usually arrive in 5-7 days.
If you order one of our matted prints, we choose a luxurious suede matting that we think goes well with the photo you have chosen. The suede matting adds a sense of richness and texture to the piece and this form of matting is extremely popular in the gallery. I don't offer custom matting options so if you have a very specific idea of the matting colors or textures I encourage you to order the "print only" option and have it matted yourself. We mat all prints to standard sizes (8x10, 11x14, 16x20) so that frames can be purchased affordably. Matted prints ship in about 10 days.
This mounting option is by far our most popular format. It is both durable and beautiful. It allows the images to reveal an almost three dimensional quality creating the impression of actually being there. This is because there is almost no glare or reflection such as you find with even the most expensive types of glass. An additional benefit is that the artwork is very durable and can even be cleaned with a soft damp cloth. The artwork also resists fading because it has UV protection.
This is a relatively new process and you will find it called by a variety of different names such as Color Plaque, Dry Tack, Photo Laminate, etc. The process begins with a standard archival photographic print on either Fuji Crystal Archive or Kodak Super Endura paper. This is then laminated with a UV protective plastic sheet that is designed for fine art prints. It is a very special product that is imported from Birmingham, England. The laminated print is then adhered with an acid free adhesive to a recycled and environmentally friendly 3/8" HDF wood background which has first been sealed in a plastic film to avoid any humidity issues and create a product that will last for a lifetime. The edges are then sealed with a black trim. The finished piece then hangs on the wall using a French cleat which is a hanging system often used with cabinetry and ensures that the piece is secure and always straight. With this option, the image stands off the wall about 3/4" creating a floating appearance.
When the prints are mounted in this way it creates a very modern and professional feel. The standard plaques generally work best in contemporary settings but we also have other options for a more traditional look. When ordering a plaque realize that since there is no matting or frame that the print size is the same as the final size of the piece. It typically takes 3 weeks from the time an order is placed until it is shipped.
Plaque on Plaque
This is my favorite style for displaying a plaque mounted print and is a great way to make your plaque stand out, particularly if you have a wall color that is similar to the image. What we do is create another plaque, completely black, which is larger than the picture plaque. This large back plaque floats off your wall using a French Cleat. Then, the picture plaque is attached to the top of the back plaque with another French Cleat. The result is a very three-dimensional feel as the photo seems to float off the of back plaque which itself is floating off of the wall. This is a great way to create a centerpiece image as it always attracts a lot of attention. I generally have one of these right as you come into the door in my gallery.
Another nice feature of this format is that it is designed in such a way that you can easily switch photo plaques in and out while the back plaque stays in place. So, if you want to put a different photo on display during the winter it will only take you a few seconds to switch them out.
These cost quite a bit more than the normal plaques because they actually cost more to produce than the photo plaques and because of their weight, they are very expensive for us to ship. If you are able to pick up your plaque on plaque in Longmont when it is produced, we may be able to provide you with a discount. These pieces take about 5-6 weeks to produce and deliver.
We now also offer a unique framing system for our plaque mounted images. This option is perfect if you are wanting a more traditional frame but want to benefit from the great features offered by plaque mounting. In my opinion it is an even classier feel and one that we are beginning to use for displaying images in the gallery. The frames we are using are about 2" thick and create the impression that the plaque is floating within the frame by use of a gap between the inside edge of the frame and the plaque. These frames come in both walnut and black and are an affordable way to take the photo to the next level. Click here to see a close- up of the frame.
Framed plaque with walnut finish
Another option that we can offer involves mounting the prints behind a special fine art acrylic. This option gives a little extra punch to some images and is a very clean modern feel. Unlike other acrylic products you may have seen, we are using one that is completely scratch resistant! We've stopped displaying these in the gallery as they seem to show a lot of glare when placed near windows, which we have a lot of. If however, you can fully control your own light, this is a stunning way to display work. This format is similar to the plaque mounting and can be ordered directly from this website. Like the plaques they take about 3 weeks to receive from the time you order.
In the gallery we are using this same acrylic on another product. On some pieces in the gallery we are using it to create an illusion that the print is floating in the air over the top of a nice linen background. This floating photo is then nicely framed to create a semi-traditional piece but with a unique floating twist. Unfortunately this format has several options of linen color and frames so it is too complex to have for instant order on the website. If you are interested, stop in the gallery to have a look or to place your order for this format.
After years of not offering canvas, we have finally found a canvas product that meets our quality standards. Not only is the printing of extremely high quality but these canvas prints are coated with the same UV protective laminate as our plaques, protecting them and allowing you to wash them with a damp cloth. These prints are wrapped around a solid box, rather than a stretcher frame, resulting in a product which will not sag in the middle or be easily damaged in transit. The edges are 1 1/2" thick with the image mirrored on the edges. It is a beautiful product which we are now proud to offer.
Most of our shipping is done via FedEx Ground or UPS Ground. For very large pieces we will often use a company which specializes in delivering art.
