| Title: | Cross of Iona | Location: | Iona, Scotland, United Kingdom |
| Image #: | 1345 | Date: | March 6, 2008 |
| Camera: | Canon 5D Mark ii | Notes: | This cross is at the entrance to the abbey on the remote Scottish isle of Iona from which Christianity spread throughout the United Kingdom. It is known as Saint Martin's Cross and though not more than a few hundred years old, it is a reflection of the ancient Celtic crosses which were found across much of the Celtic world. Typically these crosses had pictorial scenes from Scripture on one side and scenes from nature on the other side expressing the belief that God could be known through both and understanding of the written word and the natural world he created. |
